Biden has not done prostate cancer tests since 2014, says spokesman

The “last known test” of former US President Joe Biden, used to track prostate cancer, was held in 2014 and was only diagnosed with the disease last Friday, a Biden spokesman said on Tuesday (20).

The PSA test checks in the blood the levels of a protein called specific prostatic antigen, which may indicate the presence of prostate cancer.

“President Biden’s latest PSA test was in 2014. Before Friday, President Biden had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer,” said the spokesman.

Many medical associations claim that PSA testing should be a shared decision between the patient and his doctor, but even so, he is not recommended for all ages.

The new disclosure of Biden’s spokesman occurs at a time when President Donald Trump and some of his allies question why Biden’s diagnosis was not revealed before.

The 82-year-old former president was diagnosed on Friday with a “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that spread to the bones, his personal office announced. Biden and his family are analyzing doctors treatment options.
