The United States wants to buy an additional 100 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine Johnson & Johnson, something that would double their order in the pharmaceutical company, became known today by a high-ranking official of the American government, reports APE.
Joe Biden will discuss the issue later during a meeting with the leaders of Johnson & Johnson and the American Merck Group, which announced last week that they had reached an agreement to produce the vaccine.
“The president will announce that he will ask the HHS (Department of Health) teams to provide an additional 100 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine,” said the senior official, who did not want to be named.
The US has already placed enough orders to receive several doses by the end of May to vaccinate all American adults.
Johnson & Johnson is already committed to delivering 100 million doses of its vaccine to the United States.
This additional order could cover potential production problems for the other two US-approved vaccines, Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna, each of which the US government has ordered 300 million doses.
