Biden is ‘too old’ to govern US for another 4 years for 77% of voters, says poll

US President Joe Biden, 80, is considered by 77% of voters “too old” to govern the country for another four years. The information was pointed out by a survey by the Associated Press (AP) and the Norc institute at the University of Chicago.

The reliability of the survey is 95%, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. The survey polled 1,165 people aged 18 and over in the country’s 50 states and in Washington. Responses were collected from August 10th to 14th, by telephone, email and face-to-face interviews.

The problem is bigger for Biden than for Donald Trump, who is seen as too old by 51% of voters. If re-elected US president, Biden will finish his second term in 2028 at the age of 86. While Trump, if elected, will have 82.

When the data is segmented by political spectrum, Biden’s age is seen as an issue for 69% of Democrats and 89% of Republicans. Trump is too old for 71% of Democrats and only 28% of Republicans.

Pessimism about Biden’s age runs across all age groups among Democrats. He is too old for 77% of voters aged 18 to 44, and for 62% of those over 45.

Of voters who said Biden was too old to rule for another four years, 85% said they did not want him to run for re-election in 2024, versus 14% who wanted him to run.

Among those who do not see him as too old, 60% want to see him in the presidential race, against 39% who would not.
