The President of the United States, Joe Biden, met with Alexei Navalny's wife and daughter, Yulia and Dasha Navalnaya, in San Francisco, California, this Thursday (22).
The president expressed his condolences to the family, as well as his “admiration” for Navalny’s “extraordinary courage and legacy of fighting corruption”, according to a White House announcement.
“The president emphasized that (Alexei’s) legacy will continue through people across Russia and around the world who mourn his loss and fight for freedom, democracy and human rights,” the statement continued.
The American president also pointed out that it was clear at the meeting that Navalny's wife “will continue to fight”.
“We are not going to give up,” said Biden.
The Biden administration is expected to announce “major new sanctions” against Russia this Friday (23) in response to Navalny’s death and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
