Biden on the attack: “Putin evaluates the use of chemical weapons”

27 days of war and still no possible solution to the conflict born from the Russian invasion of Ukraine is seen. The president of the United States Joe Biden he spoke yesterday with the heads of state and government of Italy, France, Great Britain and Germany and said that Putin, now “with his back to the wall”, “is considering using chemical and biological weapons”.

Biden seems to want to raise the tension a few days after his trip to Europe and compact the Western front. There are several hypotheses to be discussed at the NATO summit: the first way is to give even more defensive weapons to Kiev, the second is to provide attack and non-defense weapons, but this could lead to increased tension and a Russian response that could include the use of chemical weapons. The way of economic squeeze is always open. The total embargo on Russian gas and oil is opposed by countries such as Italy and Germany.

On the ground the attacks and above all the siege of Mariupol continue. Komsomolskaya Pravda, a Russian non-opposition newspaper, published the news that i dead Russian soldiers so far there have been 9,861; 16,153 the wounded. The news was canceled and there was talk of a hacker attack. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that “the Ukrainian flag has been hoisted over the city of Makariv” and the Russian forces have been pushed back.

Today the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, will speak from his bunker in Kiev with the Italian Parliament. There are parliamentarians ready not to go to the courtroom. Zelensky has returned to propose a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, “in any format”. The Ukrainian president would be willing to discuss the status of the Russian-speaking Ukrainian republics and Crimea. “Without negotiations we will not stop the war”, but Ukraine “cannot accept any ultimatum from Russia”.
