Joe Biden today called Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal and called for a war crimes trial following the events that took place in the Ukrainian city of Butsa.
“You saw what happened in Boutsa. This confirms it – he is a war criminal,” the US president said, according to Reuters.
The discovery of a mass grave as well as several tied-up corpses that had been shot at close range in the city of Butsa, outside Kyiv, which was recently abandoned by Russian troops, seems to have intensified the possibility for the United States and the European Union to impose additional at the expense of Moscow.
“We need to gather information. We need to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs to continue the fight. We also need to gather all the details so that a real war crimes trial can take place,” he said.
“Putin is brutal. And what is happening in Bhutan is outrageous, and everyone has seen it,” he said.
The Kremlin, however, has categorically denied the allegations of killing civilians, with Moscow, in particular, accusing Ukraine of directing the whole picture with the mass grave and corpses in the streets in order to tarnish Russia and Russian troops.
The White House resident also announced new sanctions against Russia.
