Biden – Putin: Joint Declaration on Nuclear Control – Agreement on Return of Ambassadors

The presidents of the United States and Russia, Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin, today adopted a joint declaration on nuclear strategic stability aimed at avoiding a nuclear war, Russian news agencies IFAX and Tass reported, citing the Kremlin, following talks between the two leaders in Geneva.

In this declaration, Russia and the United States reaffirm their commitment to the principle that there can be no winner in a nuclear war. The two countries are committed to dialogue to avoid any dangers and stress that a nuclear war should never be launched.

He also described Biden as a constructive and balanced, experienced, interlocutor, as he expected to be. At the same time, he stated that he did not and could not have any illusions regarding the relations with the USA, neither before nor after the meeting with the American president. Asked if Biden had invited him to the United States, he said he had not invited him to the United States and that he had not invited Biden to visit Russia.

Referring to Navalny, the Russian president expressed the belief that Navalny wanted to be arrested, when he was wanted, he came to Russia. Referring to the “Anti-Corruption Foundation” of Alexei Navalny, which was described as an “extremist organization”, he said that this organization called the people to mass riots, while he did not fail to compare the activities of the Foundation and Navalny organizations with the events in the US Congress with the invasion of hundreds of American citizens last January, saying that Moscow is aware of the tragic consequences of the riots in the US Congress, but does not want such a thing to happen again in Russia.

The Russian president said that the issue of Ukraine was discussed, as well as that the issue of Ukraine’s accession to NATO was raised “exactly”, saying that in this case we have nothing to discuss. Referring to the crisis in eastern Ukraine, the Russian president said that Russia has only one commitment to this issue of Ukraine, which is to contribute to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, adding that if the Ukrainian side is ready to abide by the agreements we will proceed without any doubt.
