Biden says he is not confident about a ceasefire deal coming soon in Gaza

US President Joe Biden has said he is not confident that a ceasefire agreement will be reached soon in Gaza.

“No,” Biden said when asked if he was confident about a proposal he said he discussed with world leaders at the G7 summit in Italy.

Even so, the American president added that he “has not lost hope”.

The US-backed ceasefire proposal appeared not to be moving forward this Thursday (13), with neither side, Israel or Hamas, yet publicly committing to the plan.

Hamas said it demonstrated “necessary positivity” after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken questioned whether the militant group was acting in good faith.

Biden asked, this Thursday (13), that the armed group intensify its attitude, saying: “Hamas has to act”.
