US President Joe Biden reiterated his belief that he is the most qualified candidate to win the November election, but admitted that other Democrats could defeat former President Donald Trump.
“I believe I’m the most qualified to govern. And I think I’m the most qualified to win. But there are other people who could beat Trump, too. But it’s very hard to start from scratch. And you know, we talk about money raised — we’re not doing badly. We’re going to put $220 million in the bank. We’re doing well,” Biden said during a press conference on Thursday (11).
The comments were made at the time the CNN reported that Democratic donors are deeply concerned and withholding large checks.
Biden was pressed on whether he might reconsider his decision to stay in the race if his team presented data showing Vice President Kamala Harris would fare better against Trump, offering for the first time some opening to that possibility.
“Not unless they come back and say there’s no way to win,” he said.
Biden added in a whisper: “Nobody’s saying that. No polls say that.”
