Biden says Trump “led an attack of lies” about Hurricane Milton

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, denounced this Wednesday (9) misinformation that has been circulating after Hurricane Helene and as Florida prepares for the arrival of Hurricane Milton.

The Democrat accused former President Donald Trump and Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of promoting false rumors.

“In recent weeks, there has been a reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of misinformation and outright lies,” declared the president.

He added that the rumors are “shaking confidence in the incredible rescue and recovery work that has already been carried out and will continue to be carried out, and is harmful to those who need help most.”

“Former President Trump led an onslaught of lies,” he continued. He specifically cited false claims that storm victims will receive a maximum of US$750 in cash.

“What a ridiculous thing to say,” he said. “It’s not true.”

“Now the allegations are getting even more bizarre. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene… is now saying the federal government is literally controlling the climate,” Biden commented.

“It’s more than ridiculous,” he emphasized.

Almost unprecedented rapid intensification

Hurricane Milton rapidly intensified to a nearly unprecedented level, reaching Category 5 status due to record heat in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Currently, it is in category 3 and has had an updated route, allowing it to arrive in Florida at 11pm this Wednesday (9), local time.

Hurricane Milton was considered the strongest storm on the planet in 2024, with sustained winds of 281 km/h.

Recently, Hurricane Helene made landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast as a storm surge and made landfall in the swamp region as a Category 4 hurricane.

Authorities are asking residents — still recovering from Helene’s damage — to evacuate or prepare for another life-threatening storm.
