Biden says Trump’s handling of documents is ‘totally irresponsible’

US President Joe Biden said in an interview that aired on Sunday that his predecessor Donald Trump’s handling of confidential documents was “totally irresponsible” but that he is staying out of the investigation. .

Seeing the classified documents turn up in an Aug. 8 FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Florida home made Biden wonder “how can anyone be so irresponsible,” he told CBS’s “60 Minutes.”

“I thought that data was there that might compromise sources and methods? And by that, I mean names of people who help etc., and it’s totally irresponsible.”

The remarks broke with Biden’s pattern of refraining from commenting on the Justice Department’s criminal investigation of his former political rival for possibly bringing ultra-sensitive material into his residence after his term ended in January 2021.

Biden of the Democratic Party defeated the Republican in the 2020 presidential election. Trump, who has considered another candidacy for the office, described the court-approved pursuit as politically motivated.

Biden stated that he did not receive confidential information about the contents of these documents.

“I didn’t ask for the details of these documents because I don’t want to interfere with whether or not the Justice Department should do certain actions they can take,” Biden explained. “I agreed that I would not tell them what to do and, in fact, would not be involved in telling them how to sue or not.”

The Justice Department has expressed that it is investigating Trump for removing the White House records because it believes he was illegally storing documents, including some that involved intelligence and other data — among the best-kept secrets in the United States.

Biden’s intelligence chief is also investigating whether the disclosure of information in these documents posed national security risks.
