Biden sends representative to propose meeting and participation in summit to Bolsonaro

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) met this Tuesday morning (24), at Palácio do Planalto, with the US government’s special envoy for the Summit of the Americas, former senator Christopher Dodd. On the occasion, the representative of the US government announced President Joe Biden’s intention to meet with the Brazilian government official, in a meeting apart from the Summit of the Americas.
The meeting was quick and the government of Brazil responded to the invitation.

Dodd said he reinforced Biden’s desire to reinforce that Brazil actively participate in the summit, a meeting created by the OAS (Organization of American States) with the continent’s heads of state.

“I have come to reinforce our long-standing appreciation for the deep and important partnership the two countries share – built on a common foundation of democracy, human rights, economic prosperity, the rule of law and security,” said the US representative.

According to Dodd, he reiterated to Bolsonaro the importance of Brazil’s participation in the summit.

“We recognize the collective responsibility to move towards a more inclusive and prosperous future. As one of the most important US partners in the region, what we do together with Brazil makes a difference. The Summit of the Americas will focus on some of the most important and shared issues across the hemisphere,” Dodd said in a statement after the meeting.

Among the agendas that the American envoy outlined in the statement after the meeting, which will be discussed at the summit, will be shared climate goals, responses to Covid-19 and a deeper approach to organized crime, in addition to economic instability.

“Brazil has much to contribute on these issues to leaders from across the region who will be attending the summit, and we highly value Brazil’s voice as we discuss solutions that will help build better lives for the people of our hemisphere,” said the former president. senator.
