THE Joe Biden met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at UN Climate Summit (COP27) held in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
So the US president today praised Egypt for speaking out strongly on the war in Ukraine and said Cairo was a crucial mediator in Gaza.
“Against Russia’s war in Ukraine, Egypt strongly expressed its opinion at the United Nations, and this is also very much appreciated,” he said.
Also, for his part, the Egyptian president told his American counterpart that Egypt has launched a national strategy for human rights and wants to continue development in this light.
Egypt has also launched an initiative for national dialogue and has set up a presidential commission to consider granting amnesty to prisoners, Sisi said, speaking during a bilateral meeting with Biden on the sidelines of COP27.
