Biden spoke to Netanyahu this Friday, says the White House

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, spoke this Friday morning (20) with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, continuing the humanitarian assistance plans agreed in the middle of this week in Tel Aviv and discussing efforts to aid to the hostages, the White House said.

“The President reaffirmed the United States’ support for Israel’s right to defend itself and its obligation to protect its citizens, while also underscoring the importance of operating in a manner consistent with the law of war to include the protection of civilians in Gaza , in the middle of the conflict launched by Hamas”, said the White House.

“The president and the prime minister continued talks that began during the president’s visit to Israel earlier this week, including plans to begin bringing humanitarian assistance from Egypt to Gaza,” the statement continued.

They also discussed “ongoing efforts to ensure the hostage release of Hamas – including US citizens – and to provide safe passage for US citizens and other civilians in Gaza.”

The leaders and their teams have been in close contact since Hamas first attacked Israel on October 7. Biden met with Netanyahu on Wednesday (18) in Tel Aviv, in addition to speaking on October 8, 10 and 11.
