Biden talks diplomacy, but warns of consequences in case of Russian invasion

US President Joe Biden stated that the Russian government has proposed continuing with diplomacy, stressing that this is the path the US seeks to follow to resolve the situation with Ukraine. At the same time, the Democrat reaffirmed that NATO countries are prepared to impose sanctions in the event of a Russian invasion.

“The United States is prepared, whatever happens. We are ready with diplomacy, to engage with Russia and our allies and partners to improve stability and security in Europe as a whole, and we are ready to decisively respond to a Russian attack on Ukraine,” Biden said.

During his speech on Tuesday, Biden said that a Russian attack was still possible and that they had failed to verify information released by the Russian government earlier that some troops were returning to bases.

“It’s good, but we can’t be sure this is happening. Some journalists say the position remains threatening,” she said.

The American president also stated that if Russia invades it will be by “choice, without cause and reason” and that diplomacy must prevail at all costs.

“We do not seek the destabilization of Russia. NATO and the US are not enemies of Russia. Ukraine is not Russia’s enemy. The Russians are not our enemy and we do not want a destructive war against Ukraine.”

Also according to Biden’s speech, the United States will not send troops to fight in Ukraine in the event of an attack, only train local and NATO armies.
