Biden to Anastasiadis: US support for efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue

The support of USA with regard to the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to reach a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem, the US President said, Joe Biden, in a congratulatory letter sent to the President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus.

In his letter, the US President warmly congratulates the Republic of Cyprus, noting that he remembers with pleasure his visit to Cyprus as Vice President of the United States, in 2014, as reported by APE-MPE.

He also states that “the United States deeply appreciates the cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus and the role that your country plays in promoting stability, security and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean region. “I continue to monitor developments in Cyprus and the region and look forward to continuing to strengthen and expand our bilateral relations, as well as our security cooperation over the next year,” Biden said.

The US President adds in his letter that, as reaffirmed at the UN Security Council this summer, “we continue to support a UN-sponsored Cypriot settlement that will reorganize the island into a bi-zonal bi-communal federation.” which will be beneficial for all Cypriots, as well as for the wider region “.

Finally, Mr. Biden thanked for the lasting friendship of the Cypriot President.
