THE Joe Biden warns its Russian counterpart that Moscow will face “severe sanctions”, mainly of an economic nature, in the event of an escalation in Ukraine, according to the White House The two-hour-long talks between US President Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Putin earlier today.
Biden expressed deep concern about Washington and its European allies in concentration of Russian forces near its borders Of Ukraine and made it clear that the US and its allies would respond with financial sanctions and other measures if there is a military escalation, the same statement said.
Biden also reiterated Putin’s support for Ukraine’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and called for return to diplomacy.
The two leaders also discussed issues of strategic stability, ransom cyber-attacks and their co-operation on regional issues, such as Iran, according to the White House.
Biden and Putin instructed their teams to continue contacts while the US will coordinate its actions with its allies, the announcement concludes.
