Three US service members were killed and many injured during an attack by unmanned aircraft against an American base in the northeast Jordan near the border with Syria, said on Sunday Joe Bidenaccusing groups supported by the Iran for the attack.
“While we are still gathering information about this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iranian-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq,” Biden said in a statement.
These are the first deaths of US soldiers in the region since the start of the war in Gaza. Biden said the attack occurred Saturday night.
“We will continue their commitment to the fight against terrorism. And have no doubt – we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a way that we choose“, Biden emphasized in a statement released by the White House.
Biden did not say how many soldiers were injured, but CNN reported that at least 24 service members were injured from the attack.
