US President Joe Biden said his administration is working hard to secure the release of imprisoned American basketball star Brittney Greiner from Russia and is optimistic.
“I am optimistic. We are working hard,” he told reporters at the White House, while Moscow has said it is ready to discuss the prospect of a prisoner exchange.
As you know, a Russian court has sentenced American basketball star Brittney Greiner to nine years in prison after finding her guilty of intentionally bringing cannabis-infused vapor cartridges into Russia, even though it was illegal.
Her conviction could pave the way for a high-profile prisoner swap between Russia and the United States that would include the 31-year-old athlete and a jailed Russian who was once an arms dealer.
