US President Joe Biden announced tonight that he will not have a private meeting with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman during his tour of the Middle East next month and will see him only in the context of a wider “international conference”.
“I will not meet with Mohammed bin Salman. I am going to an international conference and he will attend,” Biden told reporters when asked how he would handle the assassination of journalist Jamal Kasogi.
The US president’s plan to hold talks with the crown prince and de facto leader of Saudi Arabia is considered by human rights defenders to be in conflict with his election commitment to put the issue of human rights at the center of human rights.
