Biden’s popularity plummets

US President Joe Biden’s popularity has fallen to the lowest level of his presidency, with Americans increasingly critical of his response to the new coronavirus pandemic, according to the latest Reuters / Ipsos poll.

The nationwide poll, conducted September 15-16, showed that 44% of American adults approve of Biden’s performance in the presidency, while 50% disapprove of it, while the rest say they are undecided.

Biden’s popularity has been declining since mid-August since the US-backed Afghan government collapsed and Covid-19-related deaths rose across the country.

While a majority of Americans support Biden’s recent mandatory vaccination and masking measures to slow the spread of the Delta variant, some Republicans have criticized what they see as an overreaction by the White House.

The weekly poll showed that the number of Americans who approved of Biden’s response to the pandemic fell below 50% for the first time: About 48% approve of the president ‘s policies for Covid-19, while 46% disapprove.

During the same period of the presidency of former President Donald Trump, about 38% of Americans approved of his performance in office, while 57% disapproved of it.

The latest Reuters / Ipsos online poll gathered responses from 1,005 adults, including 442 Democrats and 360 Republicans across the United States. This has a margin of error of about 4 percentage points.
