In the common belief, talking about money is considered a dirty and reckless thing, a business that is better for men to take care of. Fortunately, this diktat, also thanks to projects such as let’s talk about promoted by Netflix, it is slowly falling apart, but what happens when money is used by two women not as an opportunity for confrontation, but as a way to point out a difference in class and availability of liquids in front of millions of people ? It happened to the Big Brother Vip (where, otherwise?), which, during the episode aired on January 17, saw the heated confrontation between the tenant Natahly Caldonazzo and the columnist Sonia Bruganelli, back from her vacation in Dubai more charged than ever.

The two women, useless to go around it, do not like each other, a sufficient excuse to allow them to use all the weapons at their disposal to whet the patience of the other. After the provocations of Bruganelli, Caldonazzo was the first to bring up the topic of money, explaining to her companions that Bruganelli does not know who she is and that she has read about her exploits only for the infamous private plane which has often cost Bruganelli the dislike of social media. The discussion, of course, did not end there, and gradually shifted not only to the envy linked to the use of finances, but also to the fact that Bruganelli, during the live broadcast, emphasized that almost he is ashamed to receive money to discuss Caldonazzo when she, Caldonazzo, is inside the Casa del Big Brother Vip to hope, one day, to hold in our hands the same privileges that Bruganelli enjoys today. Bruganelli who could not resist the desire to tell that, several years earlier, Caldonazzo had gone to the opening of her shop only to scrounge a bag worth 80 euros.

Talking about money is not inherently wrong, however bringing up the argument just to hurt is something unpleasant and out of place, also because the ostentation of anything, be it a bank account or a private jet, is in itself a cowardly way to prove that you are better, privileged, elected. Where a private hired plane is used as a symbol of social status, there will always be those who own a private plane with a lot of hangars but will be smart enough not to share the shots on social media because the truly rich do not show luck. The Big Brother Vip, in this sense, it is only a small piece of a larger mosaic which, in the collective imagination, assumes more the appearance of Parasite than a speech by Caldonazzo live on Canale 5. And that’s okay.
