Big fire in Turkey: The death toll is rising, extinguishing efforts are continuing

The number of people who lost their lives from the murder increased to three, big fire raging from Wednesday (28/7) in southern Turkey.

According to Agriculture Minister Bekir Pakdemirli and the national disaster management agency AFAD, rescue efforts are continuing and extinguishing the fire.

More than 100 people had to be evacuated as they needed medical attention or their property was damaged by the fire.

High temperatures and strong winds contributed to the spread of the fire around the town of Manavgat, located 75 km east of Antalya, and in neighboring villages.

According to the minister, an 82-year-old man was found dead during the evacuation of the Kezbebeleni area, which is located 16 kilometers northeast of Manavgat.

A group of ten people were rescued after being stranded on a boat at the neighboring Oympinar dam.

The minister later announced that two more dead bodies had been found in the Degirmenli area of ​​Antalya, about 20 kilometers east of Manavgat.

According to AFAD, 122 people have been affected by the fires and 58 are receiving treatment.

A firefighting plane, a drone, 19 helicopters, about 250 vehicles and 960 firefighters took part in the firefighting efforts, while the Turkish Red Crescent sent personnel and food packaging to the area.

“Houses in the area at risk of fire have been evacuated. Many houses, offices, farms, greenhouses and vehicles were destroyed by her fireAFAD said in a statement.

Authorities, according to the Athens News Agency, evacuated 18 villages and districts of Antalya, while 16 more villages were evacuated in the neighboring provinces of Adana and Mersin, the minister added.

Television footage showed damaged homes and residents fleeing for safety as helicopter-backed firefighters battled the blaze.

According to the minister, 41 forest fires have been recorded in 13 of Turkey’s 81 provinces since Tuesday, of which 31 are under control.

The fires in Osmaniye and Kaiseri (Caesarea) are raging.

THE Turkey is battling a series of disasters caused by extreme weather this summer, including floods last week that left six dead in the Black Sea region.
