Recall that Google TV is not a standalone OS and not a renamed Android TV, but an additional shell for Android TV. She debuted on the Chromecast media player in October 2020. Since launch, Google TV users have started complaining about the lack of full support for multiple profiles on the device, especially child profiles, to keep kids away from some content and apps.

In March 2021, children’s profiles appeared, but without this it did not solve all the problems faced by users of the same device with different Google accounts.

Now Google has finally added real support for multiple profiles to Google TV. This will create a personalized space on the same TV for multiple users with different Google accounts. Each of them can access personalized recommendations, quick access to their browsing list, and so on.

Google notes that Google TV will sync downloaded apps and app login credentials between profiles, so users don’t have to start from scratch when setting up a new profile.

Another change has been made to the Ambient Mode. Now in this mode, you can receive personalized information and recommendations, while viewing your favorite photos from Google Photos. Special cards display information such as game results, weather forecast, news and more. In addition, cards allow you to scroll through the icons on the screen to quickly start slideshows or music. These cards will disappear if the TV remains inactive for a long time – it will automatically switch to photos or selected illustrations.

And finally, the latest innovation – Google TV has integration with the American television provider Philo.

Support for multi-user profiles and hibernation cards will soon be rolling out to Chromecast from Google TV and Google TV from Sony and TCL. While the multiplayer profile feature will be available worldwide, the cards will initially only be available in the US. Philo’s integration will also be limited to the United States.
