“Biggest market within the pop industry”, says gaming expert

This Tuesday (18), Microsoft made the biggest purchase in the history of the video game industry by acquiring Activision Blizzard for a value of US$ 68.7 billion. THE CNN, the CEO of Consultoria Makers Brasil, Ricardo Cavallini, spoke about the games industry and the impact of the acquisition of Microsoft in this market.

With the purchase, the conglomerate becomes the third largest group in the market, behind only China’s Tencent and Japan’s Sony.

“It’s a very big purchase, few people know, but it’s a very big market, it’s considered bigger than the music and film market, it’s the biggest market within the pop industry, which only grows and is growing with the naked eyes”, said Cavallini.

Activision Blizzard currently has over 400 million active players per month in over 190 countries. With the acquisition, franchises such as Call of Duty, Candy Crush, Overwatch and Warcraft become the property of Microsoft.

“When we look at games, there is also another market that is not considered, of people watching the games, participating in championships, it is a market that is exploding all over the world, so it is very relevant for us to talk about it”, said the CEO of Consultoria Makers Brasil.

Although Microsoft is known in the video game world mainly for its Xbox consoles, the company highlights the importance of mobile in the acquisition.

For the specialist, the games market has been strong in cell phones for many years, especially in less developed countries.

“More and more of these guys are entering the gaming market, and no matter where you are, you reach all audiences. It’s an increasingly strong trend, you can’t just stay on the console, just on TV or just on the cell phone”, he said.

“Now Microsoft starts to expand, starts to dominate this market and fight with other giants like Tencent and Sony”, he added.
