Russia, the United States and other countries participated Thursday in a historic exchange of 24 prisoners, the largest since the Cold War era. This includes the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkowitz, ex-Marine Paul Whelan and Kremlin critic Vladimir Kara-Murza. The prisoner exchange deal was brokered by Turkey, which said in a statement that 10 prisoners, including two minors, were transferred to Russia, 13 to Germany and three to the United States.
