Bilateral relations and the focus on international law on the agenda of the Dendia meeting with the Ghanaian Foreign Minister

Ghanaian Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met with his Ghanaian counterpart Ayorkor Botshaw in the capital, Accra.

The grid of bilateral relations was put on the table, as well as the EU’s relations with Ghana. In particular, they discussed the strengthening of political and economic relations between Greece and Ghana, with emphasis on investment, the common commitment to the principle of freedom of navigation and international law of the sea, as well as the EU’s relations with Ghana.

It is noted that Ghana, as well as Gabon, the next stop of the Foreign Minister’s visit to sub-Saharan Africa, takes over from January 1, 2022 and for a period of two years as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. This aspect was highlighted by diplomatic sources in view of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, noting that given the Greek candidacy for a position in the Security Council for the period 2025-26, as well as the timeless importance of the SA, especially regarding the Cyprus issue, and more Recently, other issues of direct Greek interest, such as Libya and Syria, are considered imperative to strengthen ties with the countries that make up the Security Council.

It is recalled that the meeting of the two ministers in Ghana comes after their meeting on the sidelines of the 76th UN General Assembly last September.
