Bilateral relations, Ukraine and Turkey at the meeting Al. Tsipra – Tz. Payat

The President of SYRIZA Progressive Alliance, Alexis Tsipras, had today a meeting with the US Ambassador to Greece, Jeffrey Payat, with whom they talked about bilateral relations, developments in Ukraine and the recent challenges of Turkey.

Mr. Tsipras stressed the support of SYRIZA-PS, in any initiative for peace in Ukraine, in the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country and in the implementation of the Minsk Agreements. He stressed that in the medium term, the goal should be to establish a pan-European security and armaments architecture that includes Russia, based on the principles of the OSCE and the European Security Charter.

At the same time, he stressed his support for the further promotion of the Strategic Dialogue on Greek-American relations on a mutually beneficial basis.

He reiterated the SYRIZA-PS disagreement with the revision of the Greek-American defense agreement, as it is not carried out on a mutually beneficial basis and weakens the role of Greece as a pillar of peace and stability in the region.

Finally, he stressed the importance of US pressure on Turkey to put an end to provocative statements and violations and to enter into substantial recession negotiations, with a view to demarcating the continental shelf / EEZ in The Hague.
