Bild: Lukashenko threatens European capitals

Bild is talking about a new terrifying threat from the capital of Belarus, Minsk, on the occasion of yesterday’s statements by the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko.

Four months after the start of the war in Ukraine, Alexander Lukashenko, the Putin-loyal governor of the former Soviet republic of Belarus, has threatened the West. If there is an “attack” on Belarus, his country will react immediately, Lukashenko said in a speech on Saturday.

“Less than a month ago, I ordered the armed forces units to target what can now be called decision-making centers in their capitals,” said the 67-year-old. He didn’t explain exactly what he meant by that.

He added: “Don’t touch us – and we won’t touch you.” Although Russia itself has attacked Ukraine, Moscow and its ally Belarus are repeatedly portrayed as victims of the allegedly hostile policies of the West and NATO.

As early as the end of February there were fears that Belarus might officially enter the war alongside Russia. Lukashenko has already admitted that Russian missiles were fired into Ukraine from Belarusian territory during the first weeks of the war. Most of the ground attack on Kyiv was also carried out from the territory of Belarus.

Now dictator Lukashenko has again threatened Ukraine with attack, backing up his threats with fresh accusations that he himself has been attacked.

“They are provoking us. About three days ago, maybe more, there was an attempt by Ukraine to attack military targets in Belarus,” Lukashenko said, adding: “Thank God, our tank air defense systems intercepted all the missiles.” .

Claims that have little to do with reality. According to Ukrainian sources, last week missiles were fired from Belarus in the Ukrainian border area. Anti-aircraft missiles were used. Apparently, Putin’s friend Lukashenko is turning them into Ukrainian attacks against his country.

Addressing Kyiv and the West, Lukashenko warned yesterday. If Gomel, Mosir refinery, Luninets airport or Brest are attacked, “the answer will come immediately, within a second”.

Belarus served as a base for Russian forces after the Kremlin’s offensive against Ukraine began on February 24. From there they attempted to capture the capital Kyiv before withdrawing in late March due to Ukrainian resistance.

Faced with massive Western sanctions, the Minsk government is heavily dependent on Russia militarily and economically. Last week, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin assured Lukashenko of the delivery of nuclear-capable Iskander-M missile systems “in the coming months.”
