Bild: What the new Solz plan against the price shock foresees

Millions of Germans don’t know if they can afford heating in winter – or if they can even get by in the face of rising inflation, according to Bild.

Yesterday, Federal Chancellor Olaf Solz (SPD) promised them: “You will never walk alone.”

At the hastily convened press conference, the chancellor announced a massive rescue package for all citizens.

Scholz had previously cut short his holiday and rushed to Berlin to present the relief package.

Bild explains what is planned.

-Housing allowance: It will be reorganized on January 1, so that more workers and pensioners will benefit. Among other things, a permanent heating allowance is provided. There will also be subsidies for students.

-Citizen’s income: will replace Hartz IV in 2023. According to Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD), the normal price (currently 449 euros/month) could increase by up to 50 euros.

– Rents: As in the Corona pandemic, Scholz wants to prevent, for example, notifying tenants who do not pay their obligations. To that end, the traffic light coalition is discussing freezing complaints.

-Energy costs: Assistance is also provided for gas customers who have defaulted on their obligations (so as not to be denounced). The government is currently discussing two models:

*interest-free loans from the state-owned KfW bank for landlords whose tenants cannot pay their gas bills.

*Poor renters and landlords can apply directly to the federal government for financial assistance.

– Buses/Trains: The €9 ticket expires on August 31st. According to the head of the conference of transport ministers, Maike Schaefer (51, Greens), a “socially graded” connecting ticket is being discussed.

-Uniper: The bankrupt natural gas supplier is saved with 8 billion euros. In return, the federal government will take over 30% of the company.

At the same time, Uniper will be able to pass on the higher gas prices to customers from 1 September/1 October. Additional costs according to Scholz for a family of four/year: 200 to 300 euros.

-Companies: Subsidy programs for “highly energy-intensive businesses” will be extended beyond September.
