In an interview with CNBC journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said Bitcoin needs too much electricity.
Bill Gates emphasized that confirming transactions in the Bitcoin network requires a lot of electricity, however, if energy is taken from renewable sources, then he sees nothing wrong with this:
“Bitcoin requires more electricity per transaction than any other method known to mankind, which is not very good for the climate. But if electricity is “green” and it is spent not to the detriment of other purposes, then everything is fine. I don’t think this is really a very important question, although you can call me a Bitcoin skeptic. ”
The former Microsoft executive said he doesn’t invest in bitcoin. He chooses companies that make products, he buys various vaccines. At the same time, the Gates Foundation is developing its own digital currencies:
“The Gates Foundation is now running its own digital currencies that will have extremely low transaction fees.”
Earlier, Bill Gates has already said that he does not plan to invest in bitcoin and takes a “neutral position” in relation to the first cryptocurrency.
