Deaths and transmission rates of the coronavirus may have plunged below seasonal flu levels by mid-2022, if no new dangerous mutations emerge, Bill Gates said.
With a combination of natural and vaccine immunity and new oral therapies, “the death toll and disease transmission will logically be dramatically reduced,” the billionaire Microsoft co-founder told the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore on Thursday.
Restrictions on worldwide vaccination against it will not exist within the next year, Gates said, as supply issues have been resolved and replaced by simple issues of distributing sufficient doses.
“Vaccines are very good news and the restrictions on their supply will be mostly resolved as we reach the middle of next year, so we will be dealing mainly with logistics and demand,” Gates said in a teleconference. to Bloomberg News editor-in-chief John Micklethwait.
Gates also said that for many countries, demand levels could not be easily determined, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
He added that people owe it to themselves to work to eradicate the coronavirus, as well as to address the threat of future pandemics.
The New Economy Forum is organized by Bloomberg Media, a subsidiary of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.
