Actor and comedian Bill Murray has addressed the shutdown of production on his latest film, “Being Mortal,” following reports of a complaint against him.
Fox Searchlight told the film crew in an email last month that the film was being stopped due to an unspecified complaint, but did not confirm that Murray was involved, according to Deadline on April 20.
Last Saturday (4/30), Murray was attending Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholders meeting in Nebraska (USA). The actor told CNBC that he had a “difference of opinion” with a woman on the set of “Being Mortal.” But Murray said he was optimistic that he and the woman, whom he did not name, could “make up”.
“We had a difference of opinion; me with a woman I’m working with. I did something that I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way,” Murray said. “The company, the studio wanted to do the right thing. So they wanted to check everything out and investigate and then they stopped production. But from now on we are talking and trying to make peace with each other.”
The nature of the complaint was not made public, but Murray said he had been thinking a lot about what happened, and it was “a great education” for him, according to the interview he gave to CNBC.
“You know what I always found funny as a kid isn’t necessarily the same as what’s funny now. Things change and times change, so it’s important for me to figure that out,” Murray said. “I think the most important thing is that it’s the best for the other person.”
“I thought and it wasn’t the best for the other person, no matter what happens to me. And that gave me a lot of comfort because your brain doesn’t work well when you’re in the unknown, when you’re thinking like, ‘Well, how can I be so imprecise and so insensitive’.”
The actor also told CNBC that he hopes to resolve his differences with his wife and restart production on “Being Mortal.”
“What would make me the happiest would be for us to get back to work and be able to trust each other and work on what we spend a lot of time developing the skill for,” he said. “And I hope to do something that is good for more than just the two of us, but for a whole team of people who are filmmakers and also for the movie studio.”
The film, with Bill Murray, Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer, and directed by Aziz Ansari, is based on the book of the same title by Atul Gawande, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ansari wrote the script and is also expected to play a role in the film.
Searchlight Pictures did not respond to multiple requests for comment from CNN .
