The Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) 2023 announced its winners this Sunday (11/19) and didn’t bring many surprises: controversial country singer Morgan Wallen won 11 awards, while Taylor Swift was the biggest female winner, totaling 10 awards on the night .
Taylor’s 10 wins place her along with rapper Drake — who won five awards in this edition — as the two artists with the most BBMAs.
Wallen took top two awards for the Top Billboard 200 album (“One Thing at a Time”) and Top Hot 100 song (“Last Night”). It is the first time that an artist has achieved both in the same year, since Usher, in 2004, with the album “Confessions” and his song “Yeah!”.
“At the last awards show I went to, we went home empty-handed. On this one, I don’t have enough hands for all of them. Either way, I promise I will stay the same whether we go home with 10 or zero,” Wallen said in his speech.
Another highlight was the presence of Mariah Carey, kicking off the Christmas celebrations. The Queen of Christmas took the stage to perform All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Dressed in a white figure skater dress, she sang amidst skaters who performed a Debbie Allen routine.
Carey was also honored with the Billboard Chart Achievement Award for the holiday classic, and the award was presented to her by her 12-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan.
