Billing in the machinery sector drops 10.4% in October compared to September, says Abimaq

The total net sales of the machinery and equipment sector added up to R$ 26.235 billion in October, a value that represents a drop of 10.4% in comparison with September, informed this Wednesday (30), the Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry (Abimaq). Compared to October last year, there was a decrease of 9.4%.

Between January and October, the machinery and equipment industry recorded total net sales of around BRL 262.647 billion, 5.1% below the amount recorded in the corresponding period of 2021.

In the accumulated 12-month period up to October, the sector’s revenues totaled approximately R$ 315.719 billion, an amount 3.7% lower than that calculated in the 12-month period ended in October last year.

Apparent consumption

The apparent consumption of machinery and equipment, a value referring to the sum of revenue obtained from machines produced locally and directed to the domestic market with imported machines, reached BRL 32.856 billion in October, a decrease of 10.7% compared to October 2021 and 10 .5% compared to September.

From January to October, apparent consumption totals BRL 327.322 billion, an amount 6.9% lower than that calculated in the first ten months of 2021. In the 12 months ended in October, apparent consumption of machinery and equipment totaled BRL 393.856 billion, 5 .6% less than in the same period ended in October last year.

Trade balance

Exports of machinery and equipment by Brazilian industry totaled US$ 1.105 billion in October, an increase of 6.4% in relation to September and 24.2% in comparison with the same month of last year.

In the accumulated result for the year up to October, US$ 10.026 billion were exported, an increase of 25.1% in relation to the corresponding period of 2021. In the 12 months ended in October, the machinery and equipment industry exported the equivalent of US$ 12.083 billion, growth of 28.6% over the 12 months ended in October 2021.

The sector’s imports in April totaled US$ 2.179 billion, a decrease of 3.5% in relation to September. The value, however, represents an increase of 10.9% compared to October 2021 imports.

From January to October, the sector imported US$ 20.372 billion, 13% above the value referring to imports carried out in the first ten months of last year. In the last 12 months through October, imports totaled US$ 24.203 billion, an increase of 14.1% over the 12 months ended in October 2021.

Nuci

The Level of Use of Installed Capacity (Nuci) of the machinery and equipment industry slowed down by 0.3 percentage points between September and October, closing at 79.3%, compared to 79.6% in September.

Abimaq statistics also show a 5% increase in the orders backlog in the sector, reaching an order fulfillment period of 11.4 weeks.

Compared to October last year, however, the portfolio is 4.4% smaller.
