The founder of the management company Pershing Square Capital Management, Bill Ekman, said that he would not invest in bitcoin, since it is “a purely speculative asset.”
“it costs exactly what someone else is willing to buy from you, ”Ekman said at the webinar of the Fifth Avenue Synagogue in New York.
However, there are other interesting digital assets, he said. As an example, he noted the decentralized network for IoT- Helium devices, the nodes of which are routers.
Ekman said the project “motivates people to build a global wireless network.” Pershing has not invested in Helium or its token, the billionaire said.
“I think that cryptocurrencies will not disappear anywhere. They are really interesting in terms of business opportunities, but I would not invest in bitcoin or another asset that is purely speculative, ”he said.
Earlier in a conversation with The Wall Street Journal, Ekman said that digital gold has no intrinsic value. He added that he would be concerned if any of his friends invested most of their fortune in one or more cryptocurrencies.
Note that the Governor of the Bank of England Andrew Bailey expressed a similar opinion. The official stressed that bitcoin investors must be prepared to lose their money.
