The largest crypto exchange Binance donated $3 million to the Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja Española) to help victims of the devastating flood in Valencia.

The CEO of the Spanish division of Binance, Javier García de la Torre, said that one of the missions of the exchange is the use of digital assets in crisis situations. Thanks to this donation, the Spanish authorities will be able to provide material assistance to the victims, take measures to eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster and begin restoration work.

The head of the international relations department of the Spanish Red Cross, Fernando Pérez-Ordoyo, expressed gratitude to Binance for the financial support that will be provided to several thousand people.

“By donating to the Spanish Red Cross, we aim to provide assistance to the people who need it most. We support the Valencia community and are ready to help them,” said the Binance regional manager.

The Valencia region suffered a year’s worth of rainfall last week, killing at least 217 people. Rescuers are searching for missing people in underground parking lots. The Spanish city of Barcelona was also hit by severe flooding. Barcelona’s El Prat airport, the country’s second largest, was partially flooded, leading to more than 80 flight cancellations and delays and the suspension of rail services. Spain’s Meteorological Agency has declared a red alert for parts of Catalonia due to heavy rain.

This is not the first time that Binance has provided disaster relief. Last year, after a massive earthquake in Turkey, Binance credited each of its Turkish clients with $100 worth of BNB coins.
