Binance Launches Training Program for Law Enforcement Officers to Detect Crimes with Crypto Assets

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has launched an international training program for law enforcement officers on detecting financial crimes using digital assets.

The program was launched on September 27th. It is aimed at simplifying the work of government agencies in identifying cybercrime and fraud using electronic means of communication that involve cryptocurrencies. The Binance Investigations investigative team said that over the past year, more than 30 such seminars have been held for regulators from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

The organizers of the trainings include security experts and former law enforcement officers, as well as analysts and operatives who took part in the investigation of the activities of the largest dark web sites Silkroad and Hydra. The one-day program includes face-to-face seminars on the basic principles of blockchain and crypto assets, as well as an examination of the legal environment in which they operate. In addition, Binance’s anti-money laundering (AML) policy and the methods used by the exchange to detect suspicious cryptocurrency transactions are discussed.

“More and more public authorities and private organizations began to study cryptocurrencies, so we can talk about the growing demand for our training program. To meet this demand, we have expanded our team to work more closely with regulators around the world. By doing so, we contribute to the fight against terrorist financing, ransomware, human trafficking, child pornography and cryptocurrency fraud,” said Tigran Gambaryan, a top manager at Binance, formerly an investigator with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Cybercrime Unit.

The exchange noted that since November 2021, the Binance Investigations team has responded to more than 27,000 law enforcement inquiries. On average, the exchange responds to their messages within three days, which is much faster than any traditional financial institution.

The marketplace has repeatedly launched various educational initiatives. For example, in March, the exchange introduced the Binance Learn and Earn program, through which customers who took a course and passed a test on blockchain and cryptocurrencies could receive crypto assets as a reward.
