As of Monday, Binance closed the option for new users to open an exchange account with deposits in pounds sterling. The exchange’s notice explains that new customers will not be able to trade in sterling as the exchange’s UK partner Skrill Limited has announced that it will soon stop providing services to Binance.
“We regret to inform you that our GBP service partner, Skrill Limited, will no longer offer fiat services to Binance users, such as deposits and withdrawals via Faster Payments or bank cards. The change will affect no more than 1% of Binance users. However, we know that these services are valued by our users, so our team is working hard to find an alternative solution,” the exchange said in a statement.
The restrictions do not apply to existing users who can still access their balances and make transactions in GBP. If Binance fails to find another fiat service provider, the exchange will suspend all deposits and withdrawals in British pounds on May 22.
Previously, Binance banned citizens of the Russian Federation, as well as any users who are in Russia in general, from buying and selling dollars and euros through a P2P service.
