The regional head of the Binance exchange for East and West Africa, Nadeem Anjarwalla, escaped from custody and previously left the country. This is reported local media.
According to press reports, Anjarwalla left the guest house in Abuja on March 22, 2024. He previously used his Kenyan passport to board an international flight.
At the same time, as media sources in the police stated, at the time of his arrest he did not have these papers. The press suggested that the passport was fake.
Also local media statedthat he, his colleague Tigran Ghambaryan, and the Binance company were charged with tax evasion. At the time of writing, the exchange had not commented on these data.
Anjarwalla and Gambaryan have been detained in Nigeria since late February 2024.
Local authorities accused Binance of devaluing the naira. At a certain point, information appeared that the company was facing a fine of $10 billion, but it was denied.
As part of the investigation, the exchange was required to provide all information on transactions on the platform over the past six months.
