After the Core i7-11700K went on sale a month ahead of schedule, many reviews of this CPU appeared on the Web. And the majority were not at all happy with the results.

For example, AnandTech benchmarks indicated, on average, a minimal performance gain over its predecessor. However, our colleagues now have a fresh BIOS for their motherboard that could improve the situation.

As you can see, it could have, but it hasn’t improved. Formally, with the new firmware Core i7-11700K looks better, but relative to previous results, the increase is on average less than 2%. At the same time, in some applications there is a drop by up to 4.3%, and in some there is still a tangible increase of almost 10%. As a result, the new CPU outperforms the old one, on average, not by 13.5%, but by 15.9%, while the Ryzen 5 5800X is faster than the same reported Core i7-10700K by 22.3%. In games, it makes no sense to talk about any difference at all.

As a result, while the Core i7-11700K does not seem to be a worthy competitor to the Ryzen 7 5800X, especially considering the much higher power consumption. But still, the official launch of Rocket Lake is still ahead, so, perhaps, some more BIOS updates will come out, and the new items will become even slightly better.
