The rains that flooded part of the cities of Rio Grande do Sul left at least 116 fatalities across the state, according to civil defense. See some of those killed in the tragedy.
Dirceu Milani, from Veranópolis

Dirceu was one of the fatal victims of a landslide, near Ponte dos Arcos, in Veranópolis. The victims would have been identified last Friday morning (03). The death occurred with other people who were also at the scene.
Dirceu was a Catholic and non-Roman Apostolic Bishop since 1990 and resided in Garibaldi. Acquaintances of the victim mourned his death on social media: “The impact of his loss is felt by many, and the community comes together in mourning and solidarity.”
Dirceu Milani was laid to rest last Sunday (05), at around 11am, at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Mortuary Chapel, in Garibaldi. The wake lasted approximately 2 hours and then the body continued on its journey to be buried in Vila Milani, in Santa Catarina.

Ludvig family, from Gramado

Nitiele Ludvig, 36 years old, cook and employee of the Gramado (RS) city hall, and her husband Silvio Antonio Pollicioli, 47 years old, farmer, lost their lives in the disaster on the Pedras Brancas Line, where houses were swept away by landslides.
Nitiele's son, Kaique Andriel Ludvig Santos, 13, also died in the tragedy. Silvio was her stepfather. The 3 were buried on Friday (3).
Escola Municipal Dr. Carlos Nelz – CAIC deeply regretted the loss of the student, highlighting his smile and contagious joy. In an emotional statement, the school expressed: “There are no words to describe the loss of our beloved student Kaique. We will always remember his irreverent smile, always happy with life.”
Gramado City Hall expressed condolences to the Ludvig and Pollicioli family, wishing them strength in this time of pain and suffering.
Erthal couple, from Taquara

João Carlos Erthal and Beatriz Erthal lived in the municipality of Taquara. The couple leaves two children. According to Taquara City Hall, Beatriz was one of the fatal victims of the landslide in the town of Batingueira, Padilha District.
The body of her husband, João Carlos Erthal, had already been located on Thursday (2), the day the authorities were informed about the event. Both were 74 years old.
Julia Izé, from Captain

Julia Izé was 60 years old, and left behind 5 children and 4 grandchildren. She died in the floods of Capitão (RS) and her daughter described her as “Owner of a huge heart of great friendships and enormous affection. Dona Júlia was always a joy wherever she went, extroverted and radiant.”
Olindo Lopes, from Vera Cruz

Olindo Lopes passed away in his own home last Friday (03). He was 75 years old and leaves his wife Neida Rossi Lopes, and daughters Isabel and Claudete Lopes.
In a statement, the Halmenschlager Funeral Home in Vera Cruz lamented Olindo's death. The victim's wake took place last Sunday morning (05) in the municipal chapel in Bairro Arco Íris.
Casal Hein, from Cruzeiro do Sul

Hélio Hein, 72, and Helga Hein, 68, were found dead in their home by rescue volunteers in a remote area of the city of Cruzeiro do Sul.
They left three children, one of the couple's daughters lived with them and according to the family, the two drowned trying to save her. She is mentally disabled and was unable to save herself.
The volunteers found the couple's daughter alive, she is with her brother.
Melânia Neumann, from Santa Cruz do Sul

Melânia Neumann, 79 years old, died at her home on May 1st, in Santa Cruz do Sul. The retiree leaves behind her husband and two daughters.
On social media, Seni Neumann, one of the victim's daughters, mourned her mother's death:
“My mother was one of the victims of the floods”, shared her daughter online.
