Bitfarms disclosed information on the construction of a mining center in Argentina

Following an official request from Argentine lawmakers, Bitfarms provided detailed information on a 210 MW mining center under construction in Cordoba.

The new Bitcoin mining center will operate in the province of Cordoba, in the city of Rio Cuarto. The farm will be located within the power plant complex owned by the Albanesi group of companies. At the same time, the facility will house equipment for mining bitcoin with a capacity of 210 MBt. The electricity needed to run the miners will come directly from the station without affecting Argentina’s national power grid.

“We will create about 500 jobs during construction and another 100 during the operation of the data center. This is an energy purchase and sale agreement between private parties that does not include any subsidies given that demand is not linked to Argentina’s national power grid, ”said Damian Polla, General Manager of Bitfarms Latin America.

An official Bitfarms announcement will help allay concerns that the project has raised among Argentine lawmakers. Last month, MP Martín Berhongaray introduced a resolution requiring the Argentine government to require Bitfarms to disclose information on the project. Legislators were worried about the possible consequences of launching such a large-scale project on Argentina’s national power system and the environment.

Recall that in April this year, Bitfarms signed an agreement with an electricity supplier in Argentina to consume up to 210 MW of electricity for its new mining center.

The company is now building up its bitcoin mining capacity. Its strategic plans for the next five years include the creation of new mining enterprises around the world and the purchase of equipment. In March, the company acquired 48,000 pieces of Bitcoin mining hardware, which will begin shipping in 2022. However, due to the crisis in the semiconductor market, the company may not receive an order.
