Bitfinex reported a phishing attack

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, which previously bought bitcoins, warned users about a phishing attack.

According to press release, the team resolved a “minor information security incident.” During the attack, a hacker or group of individuals gained partial access to user information, Bitfinex said. They deceived the support team, but were unable to access customer funds.

“None of Bitfinex’s core systems were hacked and no customer funds were lost. The server, wallets, or database infrastructure were not accessed. We reported the incident to law enforcement agencies,” said representatives of the exchange.

Bitfinex also added that the company regularly reviews its security procedures, and all staff undergo mandatory cybersecurity training.

In June 2023, she returned about $314,000 stolen during the exchange hack in 2016. Later, Ilya Lichtenstein admitted guilt in hacking Bitfinex. In addition, representatives of the exchange offered the affected users to buy back the company’s shares for $150 million.
