Bitmain Will Release Antminer E9 For Ethereum Mining

Chinese miner manufacturer Bitmain today announced the release of a new hardware model designed for mining cryptocurrency on the Ethereum network.

AntMiner E9 will be compatible with the Ethash algorithm, but the price and technical specifications of the new device are still unknown. It is also unclear when it may enter the market and whether Bitmain will be able to manufacture it on a significant scale, given the continued shortage of chips in the world.

The most popular ASIC miner for Ethereum mining today is manufactured by InnoSilicon. The A10 Pro produces from 500 to 750 megahashes per second (MH / s), depending on the modification. The simplest version from resellers in China now sells for over 70,000 yuan, or $ 11,000, The Block notes. According to F2Pool, each such device in the current environment brings miners $ 56.19 per day, excluding electricity costs, with an estimated profitability of 98%.

“Bitmain’s AntMiner E9 can achieve a hash rate of around 1,500 MH / s,” writes Chinese journalist Colin Wu. “Bitmain’s E-series once raised fears in the Ethereum community.”

The time chosen for the announcement is also noteworthy. Although miner revenues have grown steadily every month since October and reached a record $ 1.38 billion in March, Ethereum EIP-1559 improvement proposal is expected to be launched in the summer, which will significantly reduce miners’ fee revenues. In the longer term, Ethereum is waiting for a transition to a new network based on the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. Wu admits that the arrival of the AntMiner E9 could speed up this process.
