The percentage of black candidates in the elections reached the highest level since 2014, the year in which the data began to be organized by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
In 2022, 49.49% of candidates declare themselves to be black. In 2018, it was 46.5% and in 2014, 44.24%. Resources, however, have not been distributed in the same proportion.
Overall, TSE accountability data show that black candidates have so far received just over 25% of the Special Fund for Campaign Financing.
According to the TSE, the associations are free to define the criteria adopted for the distribution of resources among the candidates. However, parties cannot fail to comply with the provisions of electoral legislation on the allocation of at least 30% of resources to female candidates and the observance of proportionality for candidates and self-declared black candidates.
