Black Friday in Brazil should move approximately R$ 4.2 billion in 2022, according to a survey released this Wednesday (9) by the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC).
The value is 1.1% higher compared to the same date last year, discounting inflation.
If CNC’s projection comes true, Black Friday will register the biggest financial movement since the date was incorporated into the national retail calendar, in 2010. This year, the date on which retailers promote a series of discounts on various products takes place on November 25th.
According to a survey by the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism, sales on Black Friday have registered a ‘boom’ since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, as the health crisis “accelerated the process of digitization of consumption. ”.
In 2020, they advanced 13.2% compared to the previous year’s event.
Another differential for Black Friday in 2022 is the World Cup in Qatar, which starts on November 20. With products related to the World Cup alone, Brazilian retail expects to earn around R$ 1.48 billion.
“The furniture and home appliances (R$ 1.09 billion) and electronics and housewares (R$ 0.92 billion) segments are expected to account for almost half of the financial transactions forecast for the date. The hypermarkets and supermarkets (R$ 0.91 billion) and clothing, footwear and accessories (R$ 0.77 million) also tend to stand out”, highlights an excerpt from the CNC survey.
The optimistic expectation is linked to lower inflationary pressure. Data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) show that the IPCA, in November last year, was 10.7%, the highest since the beginning of 2016. As for November 2022, the expectation is a lower level.
On the other hand, the interest rate appears as a hindrance for the Brazilian consumer, according to the survey. The interest rate currently in Brazil is 13.75% per year. In November 2021, interest was 9.25% per year, according to data from the Central Bank (BC).
Finally, CNC carried out a survey to assess the potential for effective discounts during Black Friday. For 40 days, the entity collected 180 prices of the most searched items on the internet and found that 39% of them showed a downward trend.
The main highlights of the survey were the 17% drops in the value of men’s shoes, 13% in washing machines, 10% in smartwatches and 8% in headphones.

“Retail ended the third quarter of 2022 in acceleration, thus indicating favorable prospects for the last three months of the year – a period in which the commerce will have relevant events, such as: Christmas, the World Cup and Black Friday”, he highlighted. the confederation.
