Black record of new cases and deaths in Thailand and Malaysia, respectively

Authorities in Thailand said today that 2,052 cases of SARS-CoV-2 in the general population and another 2,835 inmates had been confirmed in the past 24 hours as the Southeast Asian country faced a new pandemic wave.

The total of 4,887 cases on a daily basis is a record since the outbreak of the pandemic in the territory of Thailand and increases the total number of people infected to 93,794.

Authorities said the deaths of 32 other COVID-19 patients were recorded during the same period, raising the official pandemic toll to 518.

Malaysia: Record 39 deaths and over 4,700 cases in 24 hours

The Malaysian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that 39 patients with COVID-19, an unprecedented number, had died in the past 24 hours, with the new coronavirus pandemic reaching 1,761 deaths.

During the same period, 4,765 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed, bringing the total number of infections to 453,222.

Malaysia has been facing a new wave of pandemics, which has forced the government to impose severely restrictive measures, virtually a national lockdown, by June.

The previous national record for COVID-19 deaths in one day (26) was set on Sunday.

Kuala Lumpur on April 28 banned travelers from India and then other South Asian countries (Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh) from entering the country due to concerns about the risk of the spread of more infectious strains. The Foreign Ministry announced yesterday that 132 Malaysians had been repatriated from India, a country still being swept away by the second wave of the pandemic.

In Malaysia, at least 1.17 million people have received at least one dose of approved COVID-19 vaccine and critics of the government have described the immunization campaign as too slow. The government says it wants 80% of the population of 32 million to be immunized by December.

Brazil: Another nearly 2,500 deaths and nearly 77,000 cases in 24 hours

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Wednesday that another 2,494 patients with COVID-19 died in the previous 24 hours, while 76,692 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed in the laboratory.

The huge state of 212 million people officially records the second heaviest pandemic of the new coronavirus on the planet in absolute size, which reached 428,034 deaths out of a total of 15.3 million and more infections.

Experts describe the official report as devalued in relation to reality.

Chile: Over 3,900 cases and 28 deaths in 24 hours

The Chilean Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that 3,920 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the laboratory in the past 24 hours, while 28 patients with COVID-19 had succumbed.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in Latin America has reached 27,384 deaths out of a total of 1,260,448 infections.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health noted that in 10 of the 16 regions of the country there is a decrease in cases in the last seven days.

More than 7.2 million Chileans – about half of the target population of the immunization campaign – have received both doses of their vaccine, while 8.6 million have received the first.

However, the Latin American country is still facing a wave of infections, which peaked last month (when the number of cases per day reached 9,000), however, it seems to be stopping lately.

Mexico: 267 deaths and over 3,000 cases in 24 hours

The Mexican Ministry of Health announced yesterday Wednesday that another 267 patients with COVID-19 died in the previous 24 hours, while 3,090 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.

According to official figures, the death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in the country of 126 million has risen to 219,590, with a total of 2,371,483 infections.

The fourth heaviest pandemic in the world – behind the United States, Brazil and India – is undoubtedly underestimated. At the end of March, data on excess mortality showed that deaths due to COVID-19 were at least 60% higher than recorded.

Iraq: More than 4,600 cases and 21 deaths in 24 hours
