Black record with over 41,000 cases in 24 hours in Argentina

The Argentine Ministry of Health announced yesterday Thursday that in the previous 24 hours another 41,080 cases of SARS-CoV-2 – an unprecedented number since the outbreak of the new coronavirus pandemic in the country – were diagnosed, with all the infected citizens to reaches 3,663,215.

During the same period, another 547 patients with COVID-19 succumbed, bringing the death toll from the pandemic to 76,135.

The second wave of the pandemic hitting Argentina has turned it into one of the countries hardest hit in the world in proportion to its population, bringing the health system to its limits.

Argentina now has one of the highest COVID-19 mortality rates per capita in the world, along with its neighbors Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil.

The wave of infections pushed the government of center-left President Alberto Fernandez to impose a 9-day lockdown until the day after Sunday.

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Thursday that 2,245 patients with COVID-19 died in the previous 24 hours and 67,467 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.

The new coronavirus pandemic in the country of 212 million people so far amounts to 456,674 dead out of a total of 16.3 million infections, according to official data, while epidemiologists do not hide that they are afraid that the country is threatened by a third wave of pandemic of the new coronavirus.

Mexico: 429 deaths and over 3,000 cases in 24 hours

The Mexican Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 429 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours, while 3,050 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the laboratory.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in the country of 126 million has officially reached 222,661 dead so far out of a total of 2,405,772 infections.

But the Mexican government acknowledges that the death toll is underestimated. Data on excess mortality released by the Ministry of Health in March showed that COVID-19 deaths were at least 60% higher than those recorded.

Chile: 185 deaths and more than 8,100 cases in 24 hours

The Chilean Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that another 185 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and 8,117 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the laboratory.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in Latin America has reached 28,809 deaths out of a total of 1,352,723 infections.

The number of cases announced yesterday was the highest since April 10, when 8,124 cases were diagnosed.

“We urge everyone to adhere to the strictest protection measures to prevent the spread of the virus and to be vaccinated,” Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris told a news conference.

Despite the increase in infections, the government is moving forward as it had announced in easing restrictions on the movement of fully vaccinated citizens. In addition, Mr. Paris announced yesterday that quarantines are being lifted in nine municipalities.

The mass immunization campaign has progressed significantly in Chile. As of Wednesday, 10,156,276 people had received at least the first dose of their vaccines, of which 7,862,167 had received the second.

Vaccination of residents under 30 began this week.

The Ministry of Health aims to immunize 15.2 million Chileans by June 30, or about 80% of the population between the ages of 18 and 29.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Thursday that 1,098 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed in the previous 24 hours, while another 43 patients with COVID-19 died.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in the Andean country has officially reached 14,909 dead out of a total of 422,329 infections so far. But another 5,448 deaths are thought to be due to COVID-19, without this being confirmed by forensics, which raises the death toll to more than 20,350. Experts have repeatedly pointed out that they consider even this last number rather underestimated.

The immunization campaign in Ecuador continues at a slow pace: about 2 million doses of vaccine have been given so far.
