Black woman arrested for racial slur against cyclist in Rio de Janeiro

A 72-year-old woman was arrested, this Friday (19), for committing racial insults against a 33-year-old man, in Copacabana, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Municipal Guard, the victim said he was riding an electric bicycle on Rua Siquera Campos, when he was blocked by the suspect's vehicle, who is also black. She then started calling the man a “monkey”, in addition to committing other insults.

According to the report, the woman tried to leave but the victim followed her and, when she saw the guards, asked for help. They stopped the suspect's car on Avenida Atlântica and took her to the Copacabana police station. There, a witness confirmed the insults.

According to the Civil Police, the woman was charged with racial slurs and will remain in court. The crime is non-bailable and imprescriptible, with a sentence of three to five years.
